In need of a minor repair, OOIDA’s “Spirit of the American Trucker” driver Jon Osburn has been forced to begin the 2016 tour season with a pit stop.
Osburn suffered a tear in his knee that will require surgery and about three weeks of rehabilitation. That means Osburn and his co-pilot, Sassi the dog, were forced to cancel tour trips to California, Arizona and New Mexico.
But have no fear as Osburn promises he will be patched up and ready to go in no time.
“If all goes well, Sassi and I should be back in the Spirit tour truck and ready to make a stop in San Antonio Feb. 18-20,” Osburn said. “For any of the stops we were unable to make, we will flip the schedule and do those in the fall.”
After San Antonio, other tour stops planned in February are Beaumont, Texas (Feb. 22-24), Lafayette, La. (Feb. 25-27) and Hammond, La. (Feb. 28-March 1).
“It’s going to be a good year,” Osburn said. “We’re going to do some real covering of the country this year.”
Of course, Osburn also plans to be at the Mid-America Trucking Show from March 31 through April 2.
Osburn, an OOIDA senior member and former longtime owner-operator, said he can’t wait to get back on the road.
“Sassi and I are going to have a great year in the truck,” he said. “I’m looking forward to meeting some old friends and making some new ones. I’m ready to be back. I miss being out there visiting with everyone.”
