Is there a trucker strike in the works?

The short answer is there is an effort to get truckers to shut down on Oct. 11-13. It is not, however, centered on issues in the trucking industry.

The effort, which is being promoted on Facebook, is calling on truckers to not haul freight for the three days. Many of the truckers who have “liked” the page seem to genuinely believe that issues such as hours of service, detention time, coercion, congestion, driver pay, etc., are the issues at hand.

However, that is not the case.

The agenda of the strike is as follows: “Which is remove Obama from office for crimes of treason and misdemeanors. We want Congressional hearing on Benghazi and Seal Team 6. Louis Learner put in jail. No amnesty, remove all Muslims in our government that do not uphold the Constitution. Remove Eric Holder from office for crimes against the people and the Constitution. Last but not least is Fuel prices.”

I can’t resist pointing out that’s exactly how it appears, and we’re pretty sure it should be Lois Lerner of the IRS and not “Louis Learner.” Not sure who that dude is. I’ll forgive the rest of the typos, etc.

Back on topic – as you can see only one of the issues has any direct connection to trucking.

That leads one to wonder who is really behind the effort.

The organizer(s) of the effort remained unnamed for the first several days of promoting the shutdown. However one (maybe the only?) organizer, Zeeda Andrews aka Zeeda Hutton, revealed herself as a country music singer who once promoted Mack and Petro Truck Stops, her only connection to trucking.

The effort picked up steam when it was discussed by Glenn Beck on his show. Raising a lot of concern in the non-trucking community about what was going on.

That too is not necessarily clear. At first the group only called for a three-day shutdown and blackout on purchases and banking. It has since morphed into a convoy or demonstration in Washington, D.C. But the details of when and where are sketchy. No idea if permits have been applied for or if the group even understands the logistical nightmare of getting a tractor-trailer combination into the Washington, D.C., area. Much less near the Capitol or White House.

It’s troublesome to see something like this put squarely on the shoulders of truckers, when the issues they are advocating for are not centric to trucking. It’s entirely possible that some could see this sort of agenda and demonstration as a negative for the trucking industry.

Any group has its right of assembly. So I’m not saying this group is any different. Just make sure that you’re not jumping in on the shutdown/strike/convoy/demonstration without knowing what the agenda is and if it fits with your ideals and morals.

Editor's note: On Monday, Sept. 23, Facebook administrators removed the page. One of the individuals who reported the page for the racist content received confirmation of the deletion and the following explanation was posted to the Facebook support dashboard.

Details We reviewed the page you reported for containing hate speech or symbols. Since it violated our Community Standards, we removed it. Thanks for your report. We let Truckers To Shut Down America know that their page has been removed, but not who reported it. Facebook never discloses who submits a report.
There are other Facebook pages and now a website, promoting the event, which is still centered on the original agenda detailed in the original blog post.

  1. What doesn't get turned into a negative for the trucking industry anymore? Every time you turn around it's time for another truck blitz or brake week or blah blah blah. Movies portray us all as druggies, kidnappers, killers, or just plain ol crazy by running everyone off the road. Public Citizen won't give us a break and every jackass with a microphone and a camera puts them on the news. We've got people in Washington who've never even seen inside a truck setting regulations on top of regulations. Then there's the ATA who pretends to support truckers and our need but are nothing but a puppet of the big companies. And then you've got the DOT. For every on that seems to be there just doing their job and treat us like humans, there are a baker's dozen that seem to enjoy pulling us over and inventing reasons to give tickets when they can't find a real reason to issue one. For some of us that plan to be there next month, this is a protest against a horrible government with worse leadership. The people who look on trucking negatively will never look at us in a positive manner. They look down on us because we are truckers. We are a lower life form to many. The people who support us and respect us are more likely to hold a belief that Washington is a mess than the others. The only positives we have in this industry is our brotherhood and OOIDA backing us up. There's no way a protest/rally/convoy of truckers aren't going to be there to support our usual gripes as well. If the organizers didn't support our views, we'd take it over. Most truckers I talk to aren't wallflowers. They will speak their minds even if they have to hi-jack the event.

    1. You seemed to have missed the point of the article, or you may have fallen and bumped your head. The organizer of that "shutdown" is exploiting truck drivers to protest Obama and Obamacare.

They mention nothing about not being compensated for all hours worked, improper enforcement from the FMCSA as well as over regulation of the industry or any of the other core problems impacting drivers today.

Your last statement was the one that really did most of the speaking for your ability to remain rational. You think that you will just take it over if you don't get what you want out of it. The very behavior you speak of does more damage to the public image of drivers. What we need is a REAL organized effort that addresses the topics of the truck drivers and not one that uses them to promote a political agenda of a person who sang at a truck stop once or twice and feels that professional drivers should rally around her just because she says she is supporting drivers.

You show me how she is supporting drivers and then we'll talk, until then she is just blowing smoke that the foolish might be inclined to follow but those of us with integrity composure and professionalism will save our efforts for a better fight.

    2. Excuse me! I am not exploiting anyone with your false allegation. For one thing I am not the organizer I am supporting this event. The organizers are truck drivers. I am not a driver but have spent many years singing in concert to them. You give me to much credit that I could sway the mind of the Truck Driver, very funny thank you!

I would like to know where is said that the truckers are limited to strike only on trucking issues such as hours of service, detention time, coercion, congestion, driver pay, etc. Are they not American citizen first? How can the Truckers negotiate with a corrupt system? Obama care is an UN-Constitutional law that will affect every trucker and family as well as every American.

The President of the United States is linked to many unresolved scandals that have a direct effect on every American citizen including the Trucker. The President has dishonored his oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America and is arming the enemy which is High Treason and should be removed from office.

I am very happy to know that the American Trucker is very concerned about these issues and are willing to put it on the line to wake the American people and Congress up taking issue to DC in a convoy with no delivers for three days. After all it is their right as American citizen that happen to have very large trucks that are taking three days off.

So, for some that cannot understand the reason for this strike or shut down, it is very simple. Impeaching the President of the United States is a good start at restoring the Constitution of the United States of America and its people by removing the problem. All the other scandals and issues will be resolved. This is a major issue with most truck drivers and most Americans.

You liberals are always infringing upon the rights of others telling them what to do how to do it and how long to do it.

    3. Amen Zeeda!!! This whole country is going to hell and if people like the truckers and the bikers start standing up for the common folk, and if the mainstream media would actually cover these events instead of cover them up, maybe the government would get the picture!!! WE the People are not going to take this anymore!!! take your socializm and shove it, or WE the People will!!!!!!!

    4. Obamacare is Unconstitutional by whose standards? Yours Zeeda? Obamacare has been upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States, the highest legal authority in the land in an opinion written by the conservative Chief Justice John Roberts. Yet your saying your opinion trumps his?

  2. I think the whole point was the 2MillionBikers2DC rally that the MSM tried to ignore even though over 1 million bikers showed up in DC that day...they couldn't get a permit either but they came anyway. This country is headed in the wrong direction and this does affect the truckers because the idiots in Washington are the ones making up all the stupid regulations that are hurting the truckers and their livelihoods...but unless the trucking companies start standing up for their drivers things will only get worse for them. No wonder there's a trucker shortage many are getting sick and tired of the hours spent with little money earned and very little thanks from the companies they work for! If they want change then they need to stand up and get it done!

  3. Just like the million bikers who showed up a few days ago, truckers are people, too. The bikers probably included a few off-duty truckers. The bikers are upset about government intrusion into their lives. Well, here is some news that may shock you: Truckers do not like ObamaCare either. In fact, 2/3 of the ENTIRE FREAKING COUNTRY do not like ObamaCare! Big deal if the protest isn't about the crazy HOS regulations. It is about returning power to We The People. What part of that do you not comprehend? (Signed) Bob "Big Mack" McKay

C-O-N-V-O-Y...ps, I remember well your 1970's strikes...I was a young GI then who also could not afford the fuel cost...I am now an older vet who again can not afford the fuel prices to go to work

  5. I won't disagree that there are problems in trucking. The problem is this effort is being cloaked as a "trucking" issue. If you choose to assemble on behalf of these issues, go for it.

Painting it as a trucker-centric issue(s) is unforgivable and paints the industry with a wide brush of idealisms and not addressing the industry issues at hand.

    1. I'd like to add that contrary to what some believe, it's not truckers organizing this. It's one person with an agenda, a has been singer looking for 15 minutes of fame and to push the Alex Jones conspiracy agenda.

If you'll follow the links in Jami's article, you'll see exactly what I am referring to.

  6. Everyone keeps trying to turn this into an Obamacare issue. It is not an Obamacare issue. That idiot singer who just so happens to be from the same state as me is using buzzwords like ''Obamacare, Muslims, god, guns, liberty, patriot'' to push her bullcrap personal agenda.

It's a good idea, but we don't need this negative publicity to give this industry the black eye it's always had to begin with. We have to keep it 100% professional if we're ever going to get any REAL PROBLEMS SOLVED. There's a lot of us in the trucking community that are trying to do just that, but again, we don't need a washed up singer who's angry at ''that thar Black Muslim president''...

Omg...I'm ashamed that i'm from Tennessee after just now finding out she's in Knoxville. ugh. Again, wake up people and stop feeding into the political mumbo jumbo that big media spoon feeds us. We in the trucking industry are a very smart and resourceful bunch. It's high time we stand on our own two feet and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and all of us advocate change in the form of gathering the facts that the latest HOS rules are bogus and Anne S. Ferro needs to step down and get out of our sandbox entirely. That's what really needs to happen. Not scream in the dark and rant about Obamacare....Open your eyes yall.

  7. I agree with the article writer since trucking concerns are hardly mentioned. When I first saw the FB page I thought it was made by a child trying to stir the pot with animated pictures and see how many likes he could get. Then I saw the woman that says she started the page and she has little insight into trucking problems. But, lets give it a little credit by getting 40,000 trucker or trucker supporters to agree to something. Something we always say we can't get done by getting truckers to agree on anything. When the 2 million bikers ride was dreamed up it was by a different person than the one that took control of the FB pages because the original person did not follow thru and use the social media to advance his cause. So it might be very wise for truckers to step up on that FB page and try to push the trucking issues. I do not think we will ever get 40,000+ people this excited again this quick. Right now, Wednesday evening the page is only 72 hours old and gathered 40,000+ supporters, something we have never seen before. Who wants to step up and try to make that FB page more about trucking issues ?

  8. Where on the page does it say anything about trucking issues, can you so-called Einstein's tell me that.. it says clearly in print what the issues are..
I am first an American, then a father, husband and trucker.. she's right, now before anything Washington has to be cleaned up before any real trucking issues can be solved... All I hear on the radio is you drivers bitching about big brother in your affairs, well, until big brother has his ass spanked so t crap gonna change for anyone... you, trucking, your families, neighbors.. American first, trucker later..
I don't give 2 squats to political parties, I want my freaking Country back on track.. for myself & my children... & yes 16 years going on 17, & Ive seen some dumbass laws passed on the industry, and most of you haven't even been in a truck long enough to know what trucking is or was.. you need a GPS and a Qualcomm to get from point a to b, with an eobr to tell you when you can drive.. I swear I work twice as much and bring home a 1/3 of what I did back in 1996 workin less..and when obamacare and anything else this administration passes, it'll be even less money at home.. not to mention trampling the Bill of Rights & the Constitution..
So, if you want to quit crying about your liberties being taken, your paychecks vanishing, and your Country back on track, please, help yourself and others that want the same... If not, keep on mashing that gas, & toting that ass... But make a stand somewhere....

  9. Jami, The effort of the organizers of this movement has never been “cloaked“ in transportation issues. From the beginning it has addressed the shortcomings of this administration. As did the 2 million Bikers efforts this group is wanting to use their presence in DC as a protest towards blatant injustices in our country. I can understand your, and OOIDA's concern about the commercial aspect and possible repercussions to these drivers businesses. These drivers feel so strongly about voicing their outrage at the direction this country is headed that they are willing to commit their livelyhoods. If you are paying attention you may also notice that the general public is very supportive of this effort, as tgey were with the 2 Million Bikers. They are cheering someone that is willing to make a huge statement on their behalf, maybe finally get the politicians to wake up. I have to say I am disappointed in the snide tone of your article, its not a common thing to see from OOIDA. As to the other drivers' comments, you've talked the talk for so long, now its time to walk the walk. It is extremely tiresome to hear the “woe is me“ yet not see anyone with enough backbone to do anything about it. A large percentage of the conversation on the cb these days are complaints about where this country is headed. Who knows, maybe this movement's efforts will be a precursor to a movement that DOES address the industries maladies.

  10. This bottom line is that the so called "truckers" strike isn't CENTERED on trucking issues at all. The last point on their agenda says "fuel prices". So, no need to call it "Truckers to Shut Down America". The promoter of this page is clearly using truckers to promote their political agenda. Seems to me that OOIDA is merely pointing out that the promoter is not in the trucking industry and for everyone to read their agenda and be aware of what you're "liking" and supporting.

  11. And I suppose all you sheeple truckers really thing you're going to "shut down America?" Your egos are only surpassed by your stupidity. Get over it. Obama is our president, duly elected twice. He's not going anywhere until his term is up. The Affordable Health Plan is the law. That isn't going to change. Where were you when Bush was appointed president? Or when he took our treasury surplus and made it into 86% debt? (Reagan raised the debt 189%, Bush 1 raised it 55%, Clinton 37%, and Obama 35%~~Snopes.com.) You guys need to take a chill pill, and deal with it. We had to suffer through Bush, who got us into two illegal wars just to enrich his vice-president's company (Haliburton), and drain our treasury. Now there in no money to fix the roads and bridges that we make our living driving on. Also, from the Huffington Post, about Bush's record on embassy attacks: "This leads us to the ultimate point here. Not only have numerous sources previously debunked the Benghazi information being peddled by the Republicans and Fox News (for example, contrary to what the Republicans are saying, yes, reinforcements did in fact arrive before the attack on the CIA compound), but none of these people raised a single word of protest when, for example, American embassies in Yemen and Pakistan were attacked numerous times. Why didn't the Bush administration do something to secure the compounds after the first attacks? Why didn't he provide additional security?"

    1. Good points. But please do not assume all truckers support this. The admin on the page is not a truck driver and many of the truckers who have liked the page thought there was a REAL trucking agenda behind this effort.

The problem is this Facebook page is hiding behind trucking for a Patriot agenda. Are there truck drivers who are patriots? Certainly. Are all of them? No. It's inaccurate to claim the agenda being promoted is trucker-centric and universally supported by truck drivers.

I don't think it is a good idea to single out the Muslims. Did we forget freedom of religion is also in our constitution? How about remove anyone from our government who does not uphold the constitution? Didn't congress excuse themselves from Obamacare? Aren't they themselves citizens of the Untied States? It is not a good idea to single out one group of people in government when they are all guilty.

Craig Rosenfeld, like Zeeda Andrews has no connection to trucking although Zeeda does mention on the Facebook page which has since been pulled for racist comments that she has been "in the cradle" with truckers over the years... Take that as you will.

  18. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what the specifics are or who's behind it. It's garnering support on a wider level - encompassing everything that's wrong, one and all...because when you don't get stuff for 3 days and have to face the consequences of the "do nothing" attitude, it'll be a rude awakening for a lot of people.

And if it lasts longer, well, let's hope you were paying attention instead of being smug and clueless.

  19. How is it being smug and clueless to encourage people to know what they are fighting for before joining a battle? If the people who are shutting down don’t know what the issues are, how will the people being affected by it know what to fix?

For all anyone could know you’re shutting down because the blind cave fish in watershed caves under Interstate 80 are being threatened. You want year-round day light savings time. You want to switch direction of travel on the roads and drive on the left like Europe. Who knows.

If you don’t tell anyone WHAT you want changed, you have as good a chance of being struck by lightning as the government GUESSING what is you want.

Your premise that it “doesn't matter” is laughable and ridiculous.

(And this post isn't being smug. It’s just common sense. Try it out. You might enjoy it.)

  21. I support Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act). I believe any trucker who is not medically insured, whether it be through one's employer, spouse's insurance, or by purchasing it on one's own, is not only playing with his own life in his hands, but is planning on becoming a ward of the state later in life when he or she gets sick and has no insurance and expects the rest of the country to pick up his or her costs in the emergency room, but is also lowering rates for everyone else by not reflecting health care costs in that rate (which, as a fixed cost paid every month for, say, 10,000 paid miles, comes to anywhere from $0.05 to $0.20 a mile or more, depending on one's coverage). To me, that's like running in excess of 70 hours a week just to get a leg up on everybody else's logs.

They should be denied the privilege of driving a truck (which is a privilege, not a right). It's only your right to bitch about it ad infinitum.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If every driver would try to stand up for themselves and this country every day instead of waiting for someone to do the job for them then drivers would have more respect. I see and hear drivers all over this country complain about no respect while they stand there in dirty shorts that hang down to the bottom of their crack, sandals, trashy tattoos, hair that looks like it has never been combed since last year, and every word is a curse word because they think that it makes them sound like a man. You look and sound like a idiot which is what the general public is basing their ideas on which is you the idiot. I enjoy talking to a true professional driver, and I remember these drivers, but I don't care to even be in the same room with idiots that put down professional driver because you don't have the intelligence or ability to be one without a full makeover and more training. Could be a new reality show about the complete makeovers over of truck drivers at truck stops. Maybe we need a contest on here that puts up two pictures of a homeless man and a truck driver and the general public tries to pick the truck driver.

Maybe you get a million other truckers to risk their paychecks to cruise the Beltway for a few days and Congress will drop everything to comply with your demands and white Christian VP Joe Biden will take over until PATRIOTS get another white Christian in office at the next election and the Muslims or brown people who possibly look Muslim/Arab/Insert Racial Slur Here will be deported (as for the ones who were born here, just dump them in the ocean since there ain't a place to send em) those annoying poor folks won't get access to health care hence they die off and Congress will hop in their time machine and undo Benghazi and change whatever that will fix and after all that they'll wave their magic wand over the oil industry and diesel will be 99 cents a gallon. Yep, that'll fix this joint right proper. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

Have fun. I gotta get back to running my business and earning money.

  26. For the sheep that says he was duly elected twice, you should really check the poll numbers as there were obvious ballot frauds across the nation with counties receiving OVER 100% of the votes for Obama. You should, also, do a search on YouTube for the video of the supreme court in Ohio examining a programmer that wrote a program for the voting machines to throw off the election. Smh @ the sheep that cannot think for themselves

    1. Prove it. There has not been a verified case of wide-spread voter fraud in decades, not on a local, regional, state or national level. Do some research then tell me who is the sheep. Are you a hard-core Christian? That's one chromosome away from being an actual sheep.

  28. So lets see someone who is a singer wants us to shut down for her agenda.Maybe if she and her crowd had voted instead of complaining we wouldn't be in this situation. But as the old saying goes one flaunts ignorance like a virtue.

    1. High fives and an amen to this. You nailed it. At the same time, I'm glad they didn't vote. Otherwise it would be federal law to attend and tithe to a Christian church; women would have no input on their own healthcare; and all brown people would probably be in concentration camps.
Oh but freedom and rights and stuff.*
      *For white Christian men only.

  33. There were less than 1000 bikers that showed up in DC & no Muslims. I hope you truckers are smart enough to figure out that you're just being used by a couple Fox Fake News fed TeaTards who cannot stand a black man in the Whitehouse. Don't go... nothing good for truckers will come from this!

  34. Sadly one of the biggest promoters of these bandwagon protests is the Overpasses to Impeach Obama crowd. They cannot get big turnouts on their own so they attempt to attach themselves to the efforts of others. The promoter is more interested in selling shirts and promoting his website, than any real agenda. Locally he contacted our Tea Party group, and asked us to Cancel our 9/11 event to run his for him. I showed up to see what they were about and 7 people showed. Watched the husband of their spokesperson shout down an NPR reporter, ranting about being an "Angry white guy, who wanted Obama out of the white House. and I am as racist as the rest of the white people". Staying far away from them. Also the Gal who took over when we bowed out has suggested occupying NFL arena parking lots and blocking the entrances not allowing fans to enter. This same nut suggested a few years ago that we quit using the gadsden flag, as "Snakes scare people". Truckers have real gripes and complaints, the regulations are strangling them, and causing huge cuts in their pay. As to the anonymous BS about only less than a 1000 bikers BULLSH%T.
